ITV This Morning's Sharon Marshall apologises to fans after confusing Coronation Street exit

A soap expert had to apologise after she appeared to confirm that someone would be making an exit from a popular show. Sharon Marshall was on This Morning on Wednesday, March 29, for her weekly segment where she teases viewers with the upcoming drama in the nation's favourite soaps, such as Coronation Street, EastEnders and Emmerdale.

During her time in the studio, Sharon spoke over one of the latest hard-hitting storylines on Corrie where Amy Barlow was raped by her friend Aaron Sandford. Many have criticised the soap for being too dark at the moment, as other recent storylines include Daisy Midgeley and Ryan Connor's acid attack and Paul Foreman's upcoming motor neurone disease diagnosis reports The Manchester Evening News.

However, Sharon quickly defended the long-running show. She said: "People are saying 'we want the humour' and the humour is still absolutely there.

"Coming up you've got Mary thinking she's off on an Italian getaway with Brian. Mary with stars in their eyes is something we all love to see. Will her hopes be dashed?"

Sharon then mentioned an upcoming story for Glenda Shuttleworth., portrayed by Jodie Prenger who joined the soap last year. She said: "Ruth Henshall is joining in a gust appearance, safely, this will though mean an exit for Glenda Shuttleworth.

"Can I officially say on this sofa can we please have her back." However, after this statement Sharon had to take to social media to straighten things out as her exit information was wrong. In a tweet, she wrote: "I am the biggest idiot

"The iconic Jodie Prenger is NOT leaving Corrie. Glenda is staying. I am so so sorry, I got my wires crossed. She is staying. She is fabulous! @thismorning."

Fans were quick to share their relief over the news. @soaps_extra said: "Thank god the best actress alongside Jenny and Daisy."

@clarep1987 replied: "Oh good! I've really liked having her there. When she was "auditioning" for Daisy's wedding, too funny." @shanes_loonie wrote: "Fab news I was gutted when you said she was leaving."

@curlytopsmac added: "Thank goodness for that. Love her character." Sharon followed up her tweet by explaining she got Jodie mixed up with Amy Robbins who had a brief appearance in the soap as Daisy's mum, Christina.

She said: "It was Amy Robbins who went who I also enjoyed very much. I got my wires crossed in the heat of live telly, so sorry Jodie (but thank God I said she was fabulous and should stay)."
