Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary tackled their late night head-on as they continued the National Television Awards celebrations on This Morning. The hosting duo were back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Friday morning (October 14) after the popular programme won big at the glittering showbiz ceremony.
Alison and Dermot took to the stage alongside Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield, and more of the This Morning cast and crew as they picked up the Daytime gong at the awards bash for the fifth year in a row. This Morning saw off competition from Loose Women, The Chase and The Repair Shop to take home the award on Thursday eveing (October 13) during the ceremony held at London’s OVO Wembley Arena.
After leading the acceptance speech, Phillip, who said "Don’t think we ever get complacent and please don’t think we ever take this for granted," the 60-year-old invited Alison to the mic after she missed out on a solo gong. She said she was "grateful" for the award, but that she felt she should have won in the TV presenter category instead of Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.
She said: “I ain’t going to lie but we all know I should have won one of these as well. Bradley Walsh, Graham Norton and the legends that are Ant and Dec are amazing, but let’s be honest, I should have won one but This Morning won one anyways."
Following the glam ceremony, 47-year-old Alison, who stunned in a glittering floor-length gown, shared a black and white photo fo the pair posing on the red carpet. As Alison beamed, Dermot posed and pointed towards his co-star. "Congratulations @thismorning another NTA Wow Wow Wow!!"
Alison added. "Thank you to each and everyone of you who voted! This is for a incredible team who work all the hours to bring you a fantastic show! See you at 10 ITV 1 . Ps thanks for my personal votes to for best presenter, having a seat at the table was incredible. Thank you for making me feel so loved. You support was truly felt."
And they didn't shy away from their happy news as the show kicked off with reminding This Morning viewers of their winning moment last night. Alison and Dermot then appeared with some iconic dance moves and a shower of confetti to celebrate the show's big win.
After a lot of smiling and giggling, Alison said to those watching at home: "We are so very very grateful. You are officially watching Britain’s best daytime show everyone! Thank you so much for voting." Dermot then admitted to feeling a bit sensitive, adding: "I think I speak for all of us when I say, 'I don’t want to go to school today mum’, as he said he felt quite tired after the celebrations.
Alison then revealed the awkward moment she thought she’d won the Best Presenter award after she was nominated alongside Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, Bradley Walsh, and Graham Norton. She told Dermot: "I’ll be honest with you, you were the funniest partner, you sat next to me all yesterday and you just made me laugh throughout the whole show.
"But the funniest moment was - obviously I was up for an award - and I heard ‘Ant and Dec’ being called but I heard ‘Alison’. In my head, I heard ‘Alison’. So then I reached across to Dermot and said, 'Did they say Alison?' and Dermot went, 'No. They didn’t say Alison.' I was so shameful. It’s so embarrassing!"
She added: "I wasn’t joking. I said 'Did they say Alison babes?' And you went 'no'. But what a great night! We are truly, truly, the whole team, they all work incredibly hard. We are so grateful for this award."
But Dermot then outed the fact that the award they were holding on-screen wasn't their new piece of silverware and that it was actually their award from 2020. He claimed that This Morning's editor took it home with him and that he's 'still in bed' after enjoying celebrating their latest nod.
