ITV The Masked Singer: Viewers stunned as pregnant comedian is unmasked as Pigeon

The Masked Singer has knocked out its latest celebrity with Pigeon being the latest character to be unmasked. The popular ITV series, hosted by Joel Dommett, has already seen the likes of Chris Kamara, Lulu, Martin & Shirley Kemp and Stephen Hendry lose their place in the competition.

After all characters had performed, the studio audience decided that either Jacket Potato and Pigeon would be getting unmasked. Judges Mo Gilligan, Davina McCall, Rita Ora and Jonathan Ross ultimately decided that it was Pigeon’s turn to leave the contest.

“Take it off!” the audience roared and with that, Pigeon took her mask off. 39-year-old comedian Katherine Ryan, who was pregnant at the time of filming, was revealed to be behind the mask. Several viewers shared their surprise on social media.

“Ah stop Katherine Ryan!!! Did not see that coming at all,” wrote one person and a second agreed, commenting: Oh my gosh! “I didn't get even close to Katherine Ryan.”

A third wrote of Pigeon’s unmasking: “BAMBOOZLED!!!! Pigeon has been unmasked and it turns out that it was actually Comedian & Actress, Katherine Ryan!!!” And a fourth echoed: “How did I not get Katherine Ryan, I absolutely love her”

In recent weeks, the likes of Gemma Collins and Emily Atack have been strong contenders for Pigeon. Following her exit from the competition, Katherine said of her character: “I love Pigeon because she’s a sassy nana. An East End bird. A real grafter. And crucially, a fan of hip hop who can bust a move.”

As to why she took part, she added: “The Masked Singer is one of very few shows that we can all thoroughly enjoy as a family. I love theatre and thought that even though I’m not a professional singer, I could have some fun and sell it on personality while surprising my children with the reveal.”

On what she thought of the judges’ guesses, Katherine said: “I was flattered that the panel thought I might actually be from Essex like Gemma Collins or Stacey Solomon. They even guessed Maya Jama which - to be honest - I’m mistaken for often even without a mask. We are very similar. Both stunning and talented.”

The Masked Singer continues next Saturday, February 4 at 7pm on ITV1. For more TV and showbiz stories, subscribe to our newsletter here.
