ITV The Chase viewers left speechless as player confuses Rangers legend with Scottish author

People sitting down to watch The Chase on Monday night (February 7) were left speechless after one contestant became rather confused.

Taking to the stage, Peter from Bristol gained £7,000 on the cash builder leading to many viewers giving him a round of applause.

Facing Paul Sinah - aka the The Sinnerman - the Academic Support Teacher decided to go for the top offer of £67,000 after admitting he wanted to spend his money to adapt his house to his height which would cost round £10,000.

After telling Bradley he was 6"5 cost, the host then joked: "How much to have your leg shorted?"

After a strong round, the player then went on to confuse a legendary ex-Rangers manager with a famous Scots author.

In the final round, with three players back home, the players had just 26 seconds left.

Bradley asked: "Which Scotsman wrote the novel The Master of Ballantrae?"

Peter was hailed as an "amazing" contestant despite the mistake. (ITV.)

The answer is Robert Louis Stevenson who was born in Edinburgh however 38-year-old Peter buzzed in and said "Walter Smith".

People were quick to notice the blunder and jumped straight to social media.

Another tweeted: "Please tell me the contestant wasn't Scottish."

Despite The Sinnerman catching them with 16 seconds to spare, it wasn't all bad as many praised the player.

A third added: "Wow that’s amazing Peter I’m sure not many contestants on the chase have brought that amount back to the table."

A fourth tweeted: "Good round that Peter well played old chap."
