The Chase fans were taken aback as they spotted a contestant's Merseyside lookalike on today's show.

The team got off to a strong start as Mark banked £7,000 before confidently navigating past The Governess to book his place in the Final Chase.

Jo was up in seat two - and Bradley was wowed when she revealed she was a research team leader who specialised in East African politics.

The 40-year-old put in a similarly impressive performance and built up £7,000 before she also out-ran Anne in a thrilling head-to-head.

Viewers following the show on Twitter took to the social media platform during the impressive showing to claim the player looked like Olympic Gold medallist Sam Quek.

Johnny said: "Sam Quek's had a change of career"

Steve added: "Alright, Sam Quek - I mean, Jo, be careful of the ghosts at the desk! Or it might just be the invisible perspex screens!"

Dayjur commented: "Looks a bit like Sam Quek"

Another user posted : "She looks like Sam Quek."

The Chaser proceeded to swiftly catch Raj and Annabel - meaning the two were competing for an overall £14,000.

The team built up 16 steps in their last round but were caught with 47 seconds remaining.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV and ITV Hub
