Vera fans have been left on tenterhooks after details of this weekend's 'sinister' series finale leaked and author Ann Cleeves told them they 'won't want to miss' the final episode of the ITV drama's current run.
Vera fans were kept waiting for close to a year to get a new fix of their favourite TV detective, after the 11th series of the hit drama was put on pause by the broadcaster to make way for the return of The Good Karma Hospital and the launch of Trigger Point. As fans were left wondering just when they'd get to see the rest of it, salt was rubbed into the wounds by the fact that viewers In America got to see the series in its entirety, while ITV offered no indication as to when they would be on over here.
After a long hiatus, all was well with the world again last month when Vera finally returned to screens, with the remaining episodes of series 11 - Viral Signs and The Way The Wind Blows first up, before things went straight into series 12 with Against The Ride and For The Grace of God, the latter seeing the Vera action swi5tch to Newcastle city centre as a former Our Girl star had a starring role.

The penultimate episode of Vera's current run - Blue - went out on Sunday, February 12 as a Peak Practice actor made an unexpected appearance and this weekend it will be time for Vera fans to say adios to DSCI Stanhope for a while once again; but not before she bows out in what sounds like a thrilling finale.
The fourth instalment of series 12 is based on Ann Cleeves' book The Darkest Evening and, having already seen it herself, Ann is imploring Vera fans to make sure they're ready on the sofas at 8pm to watch. The episode will see Vera drive into a violent storm as have to confront dark secrets from her past and reacting to it, North East based write Ann tweeted: "I’ve had a sneaky look at this and it’s very, very good. Don’t miss it!"
Further details of what will unfold in The Darkest Evening and a 'sinister' turn have also leaked online, with a TV guide teaser reading: "On the night of a storm, DCI Stanhope comes across an abandoned car with a baby inside. With no mobile signal and blocked roads at every turn, she is forced to seek refuge somewhere she'd rather not be at Brockburn House, the Stanhopes' ancestral residence."
It adds: "Things take a sinister turn when a body is found on the track leading to the house."
