Vera will be forced to confront secrets from her past in a 'sinister' series finale this weekend. And the final episode of the hit show's current run has been given the seal of approval by none other than creator Ann Cleeves.
The author told fans they "won't want to miss" the episode, which airs on Sunday night. It sees DCI Vera Stanhope coming across an abandoned car with a baby inside on a stormy night.
With no mobile signal and blocked roads at every turn, Vera is forced to seek refuge somewhere she'd rather not be - Brockburn House, the Stanhope family's ancestral pile. Show bosses say events then take a sinister turn when a body is found on the track leading to the residence.
Vera fans were kept waiting for close to a year to get a new fix of their favourite TV detective, Chronicle Live reports. The 11th series of the hit drama was paused by ITV to make way for the return of The Good Karma Hospital and the launch of Trigger Point.
Viewers In America got to see the series in its entirety but when Vera finally returned to screens it was with the remaining episodes of series 11 - Viral Signs and The Way The Wind Blows first up. The run then went straight into series 12 with Against The Ride and For The Grace of God.
The penultimate episode of Vera's current run - Blue - went out on Sunday, February 12 as a Peak Practice actor made an unexpected appearance. This weekend it will be time for Vera fans to say adios to DCI Stanhope for a while once again; but not before she bows out in what sounds like a thrilling finale.
The fourth instalment of series 12 is based on Ann Cleeves' book The Darkest Evening and, having already seen it herself, Ann implored Vera fans on Twitter to make sure they're ready on the sofas at 8pm to watch. The North East based writer said on Twitter: "I’ve had a sneaky look at this and it’s very, very good. Don’t miss it!"
