ITV's No Return to star Sheridan Smith as mum whose family holiday turns into a living nightmare

Sheridan Smith looks set to have viewers on the edge of their seats as she takes a leading role in new ITV drama No Return.

After moving fans with a heartbreaking performance in BBC1's real life serial killer series Four Lives, in which she played the mum of one of Stephen Port 's victims, Sheridan will be back on screen next week in Channel 5 thriller The Teacher.

And fans of the popular actress we'll be seeing a lot of her on TV in the coming weeks as No Return will make its debut next month.

The drama, from award-wining screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst, centres on one family's an idyllic family holiday to Turkey which turns into a living nightmare for Kathy, played by Sheridan and her husband Martin when they are left desperately fighting for their 16 year old son Noah's freedom after he’s accused of a serious crime, sexually assaulting another youngster.

An arrest, an expensive and alien legal system, looming media coverage and resistance from fellow holidaymakers to come to their aid leaves the distraught parents fighting for Noah’s freedom.

Trailers for No Return have been in rotation on ITV over the last few weeks, which one airing as much hyped thriller Trigger Point made its debut on Sunday night.

Talking about appearing in the new drama, former Cilla and Cleaning Up star Sheridan said: “I’m such a big fan of Danny Brocklehurst and Red Production, they make incredible dramas.

"I was thrilled to be asked to play Kathy in this exciting production and to be at ITV again. Can’t wait to start filming on this thrilling, complex story about family finding their way through a terrifying situation."

Sheridan has also revealed that she was left in tears before filming had even kicked off, explaining: “I’ve never been to a read-through like the one for this. It was so powerful. I mean, I cried all the way." through."”

Viewers excitement and expectations for No Return are high.

And talking about it, Polly Hill, ITV's Head of Drama, said: "“This is a brilliant script about a family who are out of their depth, in a legal system they don’t understand, trying to save their son.

"Danny finds such emotional truth in the characters and their nightmare holiday, that it’s utterly compelling from start to finish. I’m delighted to be working with Danny and Nicola again, on what promises to be a very special drama for ITV.”
