ITV Matt Hancock's assurance to girlfriend Gina as he embarrasses her after leaving I'm a Celebrity jungle

I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! returned to Australia this year and 12 campmates were whisked away from their lives of luxury to begin their jungle journey. Leaving their plush pads and comforts far behind, the campers spent up to three weeks taking on the harsh surroundings of the Australian bush.

Former health secretary Matt, who had the Tory whip suspended after it emerged he was entering the famous camp on the ITV reality show, arrived as a controversial latecomer and made it all the way to the final. The 44-year-old West Suffolk MP came in third place after Hollyoaks actor Owen Warner and former England footballer Jill Scott.

While he was running the gauntlet in the jungle, his girlfriend Gina Coladangelo flew out to Austalia and was waiting to greet him. In scenes to be screened on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! The Coming Out Show Gina says: “I think it’s fair to say that Matt underestimated the scale of the reaction to him coming into the jungle."

But she added: "He’s made of tough stuff, this summer we trekked around Mont Blanc together in 4 days. My last words to him were just be yourself, be the Matt I know and it’ll go really well.”

As Matt was reunited with Gina he apologised for being away for so long. “You look amazing, I love you so much. I’m so sorry it’s been this long." he told her. And he assured Gina: "It’s going to be great from here on in.”

In the car on the way back to the production site Matt wanted to know how he came across on the long-running show. “Of course I’m curious to how it’s gone, was I authentically me?” he asked.

Gina admitted: “It took a few days I felt for you to relax.” Matt added: “When I was being grilled in the early days, I felt like people were asking me on behalf of the British public. I knew going in it would be controversial but I also know millions of people have voted for me.”

On the drive back Matt broke into song, singing an Ed Sheeran song, to Gina’s embarrassment. Just after he arrived in the jungle, Matt called hitmaker Ed one of his favourite artists and sang his his single Perfect. Back at the hotel Matt asked: “Did I look cool doing the terminator walk? To which Gina replied laughing: “It was special.”

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! The Coming Out Show tomorrow at 9.15pm (Thursday December 1) on ITV1 and ITV Hub.
