Many Love Island viewers are claiming they are "feeling old" after being left stumped by certain slang words and phrases being used on the ITV show. Taking to TikTok, one fan Louise Pentland - who is also a popular YouTuber with 2.21 million subscribers - admitted to being confused after hearing the lingo being said by Islanders on the latest series.
"Something has happened to me that is deeply upsetting. I joke all the time that 'I'm really old'... but I still feel like I know what's young, I know what's cool, I've got my finger on the pulse... until last night."
She went on to say how she was watching the popular reality TV dating show with her partner Liam when she "genuinely" didn't understand some of the things that were being said. "Usually people use slang and I'm like, 'yeah I know what that means, even though it's not a language I use, but I get it, cool, okay'." She added.
"But I genuinely did not know what they meant. And it was that one of the boys described one of the girls as a 'baddie'... and I was like, 'she's a goodie surely?' So it's happened, I'm finally old."
She then explained how she found out what a 'baddie' means after a Google search, finding out that it doesn't mean a 'villain', but actually that it stands for a woman who is 'independent' and 'holds herself well'. "So well done to that lady for being a baddie," the mum said. "I too am actually a baddie... But yeah, it's officially happened, I'm old."
Many people headed to the comment section to assure Louise she wasn't the only one 'feeling old'. Katie replied: "Louise I’m 23 and didn’t know this either so… I guess I’m old too."
Carly admitted: "I'm 21 and still thought I had it all together until I had to have a 16 year old explain to me what rizz was." Ellie added: "I’m 32 and mum of 2 and think I’ve finally accepted I’m too old for Love Island."
Tricia put: "If it makes you feel any better, I’m 24 and I still have to google 95% of the slang people say… AND I RUN A MEME PAGE! I SHOULD KNOW SLANG!!!" Jess said: "Louise I am 23 and I don’t understand some of the language these days."
Natalie typed: "Hahaha I literally had to text my gen z sister to ask for the definition of moving loose because of Love Island." However, one user stated: "It doesn’t depend on your age it’s just who you hang out with."
