Loose Women panellist Denise Welch slammed 'childish' and 'juvenile' politicians when discussing Liz Truss and Nicola Sturgeon.
The two politicians have been getting jibes in at one another after the First Minister was branded an 'attention seeker' by the Tory leadership hopeful. While being interviewed by LBC's Iain Dale at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre during the city's Fringe festival, the SNP leader told him she thought the comments had been "made up" and it "was a spoof".
However, during the interview she revealed she had met Truss during an event at the Cop26 summit in Glasgow and had recently been interviewed by Vogue magazine. She told the audience: "That was the main thing she wanted to talk to me about, she wanted to know how she could get into Vogue - and she calls me an attention-seeker.
"I said to her they came and asked me. I didn't really mean to do this, but I said to her it hadn't actually been my first time in Vogue, it had been my second time. It looked a little bit as if she'd swallowed a wasp. I'm sure she'll be in Vogue before too long."
On Thursday's instalment of Loose Women, the panel discussed the topic 'Do personal insults have a place in politics?' in reference to Sturgeon and Truss. During this conversation, Denise slammed 'juvenile' politicians who try to one up each other.
She said: "I wouldn't expect anything more of our politicians. I think that they now have freedom, that social media has given them free reign to say what they like. If you think about it, ever since they were able to televise the House of Commons we have just seen the behaviour that goes on in there. It's so child-like and juvenile.
Continuing, she added: "It seems to me that politicians generally, rather than standing up and saying what they are going to do, it's all about putting the other team down. Shouting them down."
After the show aired, fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the situation. One raged: " #LooseWomen @loosewomen Good for Liz Truss. Most of us Scots ignore Sturgeon. She's destroyed Scotland!"
Another wrote: "Nadia Sawalha has bash & bait & grind Boris Johnson so much that even when he resigned, she was still bashing him. Now she’s started on Liz Truss. Instead of using ur energy hating the Tory leaders, may be u can clean ur garden, clean ur kitchen or even breath," A third penned: " @loosewomen Liz Truss comments about Nicola Sturgeon was turned into a male versus female argument. Liz Truss words are offensive to millions of Scots but just FM. My ten year old actually just said to me those women aren’t taking it very seriously are they? Incredible."
Another angry viewer said: " @loosewomen @nadiasawalha How disappointing to hear you’re not a fan of Nicola http://Sturgeon. You’ve no idea how much she’s improved the lives of women in Scotland , especially women of colour.Really gutted about that actually cos I’m a big fan of yours. Please reconsider."
A fifth wrote: "Why can't @loosewomen focus on the topic, talking about the comments Liz Truss made about Nicola Sturgeon and they're debating how men "get off" on women bitching"
