ITV I'm A Celebrity's Boy George sparks controversy as viewers lash out with complaints

There are some strong personalities in the jungle this year and just three episodes in to the 2022 series of ITV's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here the 'diva' in some is coming to the surface and some fans of the show are fuming.

As the latest show hit screens, the camp of nine contestants settled down to enjoy the spoils of the comedian Babatunde Aleshe 'Horrifying Heights' challenge. The comedian had been voted to take on the terrifying trial after viewers watched him refuse to walk to the edge of a plank 334ft in the air during the first show of the series. Conquering his fears, the campmate came back from the latest Bushtucker Trial clutching 9 stars and securing a meal for everyone. However, this is where the tensions began for other campmates.

I'm A Celebrity fans lashed out as Boy George's treatment of a fellow camper. As he clashed with Loose Women star, Charlene White, some pointed out that he "contradicted himself".

The flash point, as is the case in many years, was the cooking, the food, and who was in charge. The singer, 61, had already highlighted the 'hierarchy' of the camp with Radio DJ Chris Moyles early on in the contest saying: "It feels like there is already a hierarchy to kitchen with Mike and Charlene... there's this kinda like patriarchy matriarchy" He then went on to call the ITV News favourite "controlling" in a chat with another campmate. It came a day on from telling someone else he wasn't keen on the Loose Women star, 42, taking over in the kitchen.

He also shared his dislike of his dinner on Monday night saying it was "undercooked", and on Tuesday he once again took offence to Charlene "giving orders" once the food arrived. Boy George ended up confronting the Charlene about his feelings, and, as the Mirror reported, while it seemed he played down what he'd said to others he did call her "the boss".

As Charlene questioned his thoughts and claimed she wasn't "the boss", George continued to claim this as the case. Taking to the Bush Telegraph, George said: "It’s so weird, that [food] bag comes down and Charlene just turns into an entirely different person. It’s amazing, she issues orders and tells everyone what to do. I’m like, ‘Wow’. You know, it’s like, ‘Who are you?’" Adding: "Charlene she just issues orders. For me as an observer of my own feelings, it’s mind blowing."

Boy George later told Scarlette Douglas: "I just feel like Charlene’s very controlling. She tells you what to do and it really rubs you up the wrong way. I’m struggling with that, but I’ll get over it. It’s fine, she’s very sweet as well so it’s a real contradiction. There’s this controlling side and then there’s this caring side and it confuses me." As he spoke Charlene awkwardly walked in, promoting the pair to discuss the matter later on.

He told her: "It might be good to say to people, ‘Right you do this today.’ Otherwise I’m going to feel like I’m not doing anything. I want to win stars, that’s my main thing, I’m going to do everything I can to get stars.

"I want to contribute. You’re very strong. Listen, you’re such a beautiful contradiction because you’re like tough, and then you’ve got this beautiful side to you. But it’s challenging for me. I have to say it’s challenging for me."

As Charlene asked why this was, he told her: "Because I’m such a control freak. It’s my stuff. Because you are such a matriarch… and you better accept it, don’t even deny it, look at you, ‘What do you mean?’"

He added: "So Charlene, I don’t mind if you tell me what to do but give me some jobs if you’re going to be the boss.”

Charlene replied: "I’m not being the boss," with Boy George adding: "You are being the boss baby."

Boy George then said in the Telegraph: "Charlene, she’s the boss. I’m happy to do nothing if people want to take charge. People are taking it but I think there’s going to be some rebellions."

Viewers hit out at the contestant over his comments about and to Charlene, with many pointing out he was contradicting himself. One minute he seemed to suggest he wanted to do tasks around the camp, before he told people he wouldn't be rushing to do those same chores.

Taking to Twitter, one fan said: "I’m so confused. What does Boy George want here? Does he want to be given jobs or no?" Another agreed: "Boy George complaining because no one's telling him what to do, but at the same time not wanting anyone telling him what to do."

A third fan added: "Boy George make your mind up instead of whinging," as a fourth agreed: "Boy George needs to decide whether he wants to be told what to do or whether he doesn’t."

Another commented: "Boy George is the one who is a contradiction! Doing nothing but says he wants to do something." Another social media user demanded: "Boy George you need to leave Charlene ALONE #ImACeleb".
