ITV I'm A Celebrity rules contestants have to follow and behind the scenes secrets

The new season of I'm A Celebrity is set to premiere tonight.

Ant and Dec will host as the show returns to its spiritual home in Australia. TV's toughest entertainment challenge is back Down Under after two years in Wales due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

An all star line up of 10 celebrities have already been announced. The confirmed campmates include Sue Cleaver, Chris Moyles and Charlene White.

The celebs have been photographed landing in Australia ahead of their gruelling stint in the camp. Since the show's launch in 2002, many viewers have suggested the famous camp residents are given things like extra food after the cameras stop rolling.

However, show insiders have previously provided an insight to Mirror Online on secrets about what the celebs really experience.

Do the celebrities know what they're getting themselves into?

A few say they have never watched the show prior to entering camp, but all those thinking about taking part are sent a DVD. Speaking in 2018, I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! The Inside Story author Busk-Cowley said: "Every celebrity who is considering taking part is sent a pack including a DVD so they know precisely what they’re letting themselves in for.

“They’re invited to meetings where executives tell them just how tough it will be - the executives call it - ‘The Talk Of Doom’.”

Can they take an unlimited amount of clothes into camp?

Campmates all have a uniform to wear during the series, though they are allowed to customise this. Aside from that, they can't take much in at all - just three sets of underwear, and three sets of swimsuits or bikinis.

Also one luxury item is also allowed per celeb, with the most popular choice a pillow, a chair or a photograph.

Where do they get cigarettes from?

Some celebs occasionally have a sneaky cigarette, but where do they get them from? An insider told the Mirror : "They are allowed some cigarettes... there’s a pretty good supply.”

Are campmates given any extra food?

No, what you see is what they get. The stars are genuinely hungry which means sometimes they get given electrolyte drinks and glucose to keep them going.

In fact, two campmates were so exhausted during the 2018 series that Medic Bob had to rush and treat them. He said: “I mean there's been a couple, I can't mention it medically, but there's been a couple that have had a few dizzy spells and we've given them some electrolyte drinks and some glucose.”

Confirming what little food they get, he added: “They're very hungry, really hungry. They're very hungry at the moment, they haven't done quite so well at the trials lately.

“If you could see how much rice and beans they get per person, per day, I think you'd be quite shocked. The little bit of rice is quite tiny and the little bit of beans is quite tiny.”

Why don't campmates get wet when it rains?

Every year there seems to be some kind of storm and viewers will have noticed that the celebs manage to stay dry. Well, that’s because there’s a canopy about 50ft above camp to stop it getting rained on directly, and to stop the fire being put out.
