I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here viewers have made a claim about Jill Scott as she took a cheeky swipe at Matt Hancock and shared her inspirational story during the latest scenes from the jungle. The former footballer had viewers' hearts from the get-go when she stormed through the first challenge, named 'The Ledge'.
And that hasn't changed just over a week on as fans of the ITV reality show listened intently as Jill reflected on her win at the Euros 2022 with her fellow Lionesses. The England Women's football team set the UK alight earlier in the year when they lifted the Euros trophy at Wembley Stadium.
As she chatted to her campmates, Jill shared how her love affair with football began at five years old. "[I was] playing in the schoolyard with the boys. I literally didn’t realise until a couple of weeks in that I was literally the only girl doing it," the 35-year-old began. "But I had loads of energy as a kid. Even my grandma said on my Christening day, my legs were like this [mimed kicking] the whole time. My grandma reckons she said, 'She’s going to be a footballer', and I was about four months old or something."
But it wasn't always easy, with Jill opening up about the difficulties she faced when playing football as a young girl. "It was the parents, some of the parents from opposing teams," she shared. "If I beat their precious son, they’d shout stuff at us. Like, 'Kick her, hack her down', I’d come off the pitch literally in tears."
Speaking in the Bush Telegraph afterwards, Scarlette Douglas said: "For some people that could have broken them, but for her, it made her. So, things can either make or break you and she took a positive spin on it and she kept going and look how she is." Loose Women star Charlene White also hailed Jill and her teammates as 'massive inspirations'.
Adding in the Bush Telegraph, Jill said: "Along the way, I had to put up with a few mean comments from the parents and stuff like that. Now, knowing that her [Charlene’s] young daughter won’t have to face that stuff, she’s on the start of that journey and it can be an amazing one for her."
Later, Jill caught viewers' attention again thanks to her quick wit. The footballer answered back to Matt Hancock after he was revealed as the first Camp Leader. Since the former health secretary, 44, entered the camp last Wednesday, the public have voted for him to take part in every trial.
But he now faces potential revolt after being named leader following a head-to-head with former England rugby star Mike Tindall for control of the campsite, prompting a muted reaction from his co-stars, after both received the most votes from fans of the show for the role.
After appointing ITV News broadcaster Charlene White as his deputy, despite them previously clashing over his breaking of Covid-19 guidance during the pandemic, dissent began to spread. As he addressed the group for the first time, Matt revealed the duties his campmates would be taking on.
But Jill quipped: "Just to be clear, are these guidelines or rules?" referring to the actions that led him to resign in June 2021. "These are rules. This is the law of the jungle, Jill," Matt asserted. While laughing, the retired football star replied: "Just checking." And I'm A Celeb viewers were quick to declare the same thing.
@tiffanyoates_ tweeted: "'Are these guidelines or rules?' Can we now collectively agree Jill is queen of the jungle #ImACeleb." @BethWest92 commented: "Are these guidelines or rules?' Jill for Queen of the Jungle just for that line #imaceleb." @CelticLass07 shared: "Just to be clear are these guidelines or rules?" Hahahah. Crown Jill Scott the Queen of the jungle right now #ImACelebrity."
@DJTweetyPie posted: "Hahahahahahaha…. JILL is THE QUEEN #ImACeleb." @CarysLad asked: "Can we all agree now to make Jill Queen of the jungle? #ImACeleb." While @bringbckmerlin added: "For that line Jill deserves to sleep in the RV for the rest of the series and that's not even considering how much of a queen she is anyway #ImACeleb."
