Richard Madeley has left Good Morning Britain viewers rather puzzled as he asked Ross Kemp about the Queen. The former EastEnders star was on the ITV news programme on Monday morning to chat to Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins.
He appeared live from South London where he is joining the call for people to get involved in 'Thank You Day', an idea dreamed up by 13 people, and is now a national event supported by hundreds of organisations and is being marked on Sunday, June 5, as part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
The GMB hosts kicked off the chat by asking Ross about his own experience of meeting the Queen, revealing he had had the pleasure twice.
When asked what the 96-year-old Monarch was like but Richard, Ross replied: "Very kind, very gracious and funny, witty."
While he said the tw conversation he has had were the Queen were "short" and about the events they were both in attendance at, Ross said he was "absolutely honoured that we are celebrating 70 years of her service to the people of these Islands."
He then added: "That's the reason that most of us will be celebrating over the coming weekend but also it's another opportunity to say 'thank you' to the 14.7 million people who volunteered to help over the last two years during the pandemic."
But it was before the end of the chat with Ross that Richard baffled GMB viewers with his question. The 66-year-old presenter said: "Just one more question about the time you met Her Majesty. I always ask people this question and I get a variety of answers...
"Did she look like you expected her to look? Did she look like the Queen looks on the telly and in photographs or did she look a little bit different? Were you surprised?"
Ross appeared a little taken aback but the direction of the question and replied: "She looks exactly like she does on the telly. She is a very beautiful lady I would suggest and there is something about her that is unique and very, very special."
And viewers were soon taking to social media to share their confusion over the 'stupid' question. @AndrewM24391043 tweeted: "'Did the Queen look like the Queen?' No, she looked like that old girl on the stamps! #GMB
