ITV Good Morning Britain's Ben Shephard cheekily gushes over Lorraine Kelly as he compares her to famous TV character

Ben Shephard made Good Morning Britain a bit cheeky during his latest appearance at the helm as he gushed over co-star Lorraine Kelly. The presenter was back fronting the ITV news programme on Friday (March 17) alongside Kate Garraway.

As usual, they were joined by Lorraine during the live show as she appeared live from the neighbouring studio to reveal what was coming up on her self-titled show. However, Kate expressed some trepidation about speaking to the Scottish TV star after she started to suffer issues with her voice just before her penultimate show of the week on Thursday.

Just as she was ready to join hosts Ben and Kate during yesterday's show, Dr Hilary Jones had to step in. "Lorraine's here at nine o'clock but if you follow her on Twitter, you'll know there are issues going on so I'll ask this trepidatiously?... " Kate was heard saying as Lorraine appeared from her usual spot but she was holding up a sign.

"Lorraine!" Kate gasped as she and Ben leant forward in a bid to read what the sign said. It read: "I've lost my voice. Hilary, can you take over?" Upon reading the message Kate said, "Dr Hilary, are you there?" to which the show's resident GP appeared and was on hand to introduce what was coming up.

It came after she shared on Twitter: "HELP! I’ve lost my voice - any cures that have worked for you (and yes - well aware some might say me not able to talk can only be a blessing)." She did, however, soldier on and appeared for her programme with a slightly hoarse voice.

During today's crossover, Ben and Kate checked in to see how Lorraine was doing as she gave an update on her health. "I'm a little bit nervous to talk to her, I don’t want to do anything to jeopardise your voice," Kate quipped.

Lorraine still had a croaky voice as she returned to her self-titled show (ITV)

Ben then cheekily quipped with a smirk on his face: "I’m going to be honest Lorraine, I quite enjoyed it." Lorraine then asked in surprise: "Did you?" while still sounding like she was struggling to speak. "I’ve gone all deep and weird and strange," she said.

But Ben then jokingly quipped: "You sound like Marge Simpson’s sisters." To which Lorraine replied: "Oh yes I do," before giggling with the GMB stars.
