ITV GMB announces Scots broadcaster Gordon Smart as new host

Scots broadcaster Gordon Smart is joining the Good Morning Britain presenting team this week.

The 42-year-old former newspaper journalist will host the ITV breakfast programme on Thursday and Friday alongside Charlotte Hawkins.

The TALKsport host was announced today (Tuesday) as the latest face on the rolling line-up which also includes Susanna Reid, Ben Shephard, Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway.

Gordon was the youngest editor of The Sun's Bizarre showbiz column at just 26 and went on to become editor of the Scottish Sun before becoming a deputy editor at the national paper in 2016. He also presents for BBC Radio Scotland, Radio X, BBC Radio 5 Live and has a podcast, Restless Natives, with pal, Scots actor Martin Compston.

He announced the exciting news on Twitter where he posted a picture of himself sitting in the GMB studio, and revealed his dad had some words of advice ahead of his new job.

He said: "Looking forward to making my debut hosting @GMB this Thursday and Friday with @CharlotteHawkns

"@ITV Told my dad about the new gig and he said “better get a spray tan, son.” Good.

"See you bright and early at 6am, 29th and 30th December. Good Morning Britain!"

Many people rushed to wish the Napier University alum good luck for his first show, including River City's Stephen Purdon, who tweeted: "Congrats mate," with a clapping hands emoji.

GMB host Charlotte Hawkins said: "Looking forward to it - see you then." followed by a smiling face emoji.

Executive Creative Director at TalkTV, Erron Gordon, added: "This feels right! Good luck mate!"

Clyde 1's Amber Zoe replied posting a clapping hand emoji.

Someone else referred to his days working as a junior reporter at the Dundee Courier, said: "No bad for a boy that worked at The Courier. Well in!"
