ITV Emmerdale star announces exit from soap as fans make demand

Emmerdale actress Elizabeth Boag, who plays Gail Hancock, has announced her departure from the show.

Gail was introduced to the soap in March after Marlon Dingle suffered an ischemic stroke. Over the past few weeks, Gail has nursed Marlon back to health.

But as Marlon returned to his home in Emmerdale, actress Elizabeth confirmed her character will no longer appear on-screen.

Elizabeth tweeted: "Bye Gail! Thank you @markcharnock, @ZoeHenry03, all the cast, crew and casting team @emmerdale. Loved every minute."

Emmerdale viewers were devastated by the announcement. One fan, Simone, tweeted: "Make Liz a regular as Gail. Fantastic acting. The continuity of character and the attention to detail surpasses most TV and film."

Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon, responded: "You were wonderful in the part, Liz! Just superb."

Leanne said: "You were like a breath of fresh air I'm gutted you are gone ...We need you back asap."

Cliff said: "I thought you were brilliant and very realistic and I hope they can bring you back into the fold somehow."

Olivia added: "You were brilliant Elizabeth... hopefully you might get a job in the village."

And Eden said: "You were brilliant! I really was hoping you might be Marlon's home carer to help out Rhona and the rest of the family! Blessings and love to you ever after."
