Emmerdale fans don't think it'll quite be the happily ever after Gabby Thomas is hoping for after Nicky popped the question after a mere few weeks of dating. The character, played by Lewis Cope, made his first appearance in the Dales back in December when he became the new nanny at Home Farm.
At the time, Gabby was delighted to offer the job to the handsome newbie and Nicky wasted no time in accepting. It wasn't long before the mum-of-one made an advance at Kim Tate's new employee and after weeks of resistance, Nicky finally succumbed to his feelings and viewers of the ITV soap have watched the pair enjoying a secret romance.
But during Monday night's edition of Emmerdale (April 3), after already being caught out by Caleb Milligan, Gabby and Nicky decided to come clean to Kim as well as her mum Bernice Blackstock and former step-mum Laurel Thomas.
Kim wasn't impressed and wasn't long before she was instructing that his working contract with them be terminated. Gabby desperately tried to get Kim to see things differently and it wasn't long before Nicky spoke out in defence of his relationship with Gabby and declared his love for her.
Then in a shock twist, Nicky whipped out an engagement ring and got down on one knee to propose to Gabby who wasted no time in giving him a big 'yes!' As well as being surprised by the sudden romantic gesture, Emmerdale fans have been flocking to social media to share their theories as they don't believe Nicky is who he says he is.
Fans have been suspicious of his character since he first arrived and it hasn't taken long for viewers long to link him to Caleb, the long-lost brother of Cain and Chas Dingle, after his reason for being in the village was exposed when he took a phone call and suggested he wanted to bring Home Farm, and ultimately Kim, down.
Last week, Caleb walked in on Nicky and Gabby Thomas as things were about to get steamy as they enjoy a secret relationship under his employer Kim's nose. Horrified, the new couple begged Caleb not to say anything to Kim. But stamping his own authority, Caleb made it clear that keeping their romance a secret didn't sit well with him as Kim is his business partner.
And in a moment of anger, Nicky shouted at Caleb: "You're big on trust, are you?" to which he responded: "Well have you got information that says different?" Nicky immediately backed down and said he didn't know anything, leaving fans thinking this confirmed a link between the pair.
Now, following the big proposal, Emmerdale fans are even more convinced that Nicky is working with Caleb and is in on his 'plan'. @ifeelflames tweeted: "Anyone else think Nicky & Caleb are working together to get hold of all the shares of home farm? I’m wondering if they’re father & son #Emmerdale."
