Emmerdale fans think they know what will happen next after David Metcalfe caught Leyla Cavanagh taking drugs. As viewers of the ITV soap know, the wedding planner has been keeping her habit a secret from her loved ones with only Suzy Merton aware of her drug taking.
However, Suzy has since taken the fall for Leyla, who she used to party with away from the village, after she was quick to throw her under the bus over the drugs previously found in the Take A Vow office which were pinned on former addict Jay Sharma. It came after Jay and Moira Barton discovered that the newcomer had given Moira's daughter, Holly, money on the night she died from a drug overdose.
With Suzy now gone after being dumped by Vanessa Woodfield and ostracised from the likes of Moira and Jay, Leyla has continued to let her drug addiction spiral. During Tuesday night's episode (July 19), Leyla lost Kim Tate as a client after she realised her wedding planner didn't appear to be taking her upcoming nuptials seriously.

Furious about losing Kim but not willing to accept fault, Leyla decided to use cocaine, however, as she angrily set up a line, she was caught red-handed by ex David who was horrified. She tried to wriggle her way out of it, claiming she'd only done drugs a few times in recent weeks before explaining she had had a tough year following the death of her step-daughter Leanna and nearly being killed by Meena.
But David didn't believe her and demanded she tell the truth. She continued to lie and David saw just how desperate she was when he confiscated the drugs and marched out of the office, vowing to tell her husband Liam Cavanagh the truth so she can get the help that she needs.
Leyla pleaded with the shop owner, saying that she wasn't an addict, but when he threatened to tip the white powder away, she visibly panicked before quickly changing her tune in a bid to get David to believe her lies.
The episode ended with David deciding what he should do next and Emmerdale fans think he may have found a solution to his recent money woes, despite girlfriend Victoria Sugden selling her inherited land to farmer Moira. @VampLover27 tweeted: "This could be the perfect blackmail storyline now David’s got some dirt #Emmerdale."
Whereas @RileyCo10852974 predicted: "#Emmerdale My theory is that David will be on his way to tell Liam but he’ll be caught with the drugs and everyone assumes he’s an addict and he’s blaming sweet innocent Leyla for his actions." @Chris1968E added: "#Emmerdale now will David do the right thing & tell Liam or...."
Meanwhile, viewers also admitted to feeling 'uncomfortable' watching the characters on-screen. That's because while many of us up and down the country were sweltering in the record-breaking temperatures, the villagers like Leyla were still donning jackets and more clothing the UK could bare.
@dondons100 commented: "Catching up on #Emmerdale and it’s making me feel really uncomfortable. I’m roasting in here and they’re walking around in jumpers and coats. Surely when they film they know what time of year it will be shown and they could actually dress for the right season."
@penniless_poet joked: "Leyla you do need help - you're wearing a coat in a 40 degree heatwave! #Emmerdale." @janwilliams00 added: "I know #Emmerdale is a soap and is filmed 4/6 weeks ahead, but its meant to mimic real life in July. So even though no two summers 'weather wise' are the same, one thing you can guarantee in july, is, its not coat weather. All the actors are wearing jackets, 1 is wearing a puffer."
