Coronation Street fans were bowled over last week when Glenda Shuttleworth made her debut. Last Friday, viewers of the ITV soap were introduced to the sister of undertaker George Shuttleworth. She instantly made an impact on the cobbles, helping to save George's skin at work when he took too many strong painkillers.
Clocking George asleep in the back of the funeral car, she quickly took charge of the proceedings. Later as Glenda, Todd and Sean Tully celebrated how well the funeral went following the wake in the Rovers Return, George sheepishly appeared. He was thrilled to be reunited with his sister, who explained to her new pals that she works a performer on cruise ships. And it wasn't only George who was pleased to see her.
And Glenda soon hit it off with Sean after spotting he had an eye for one of the mourners at Mr Pugh's funeral, dentist Laurence. During Monday night's trip to Weatherfield (August 8), Rovers barman and Underworld machinist Sean appeared glum. As he moped around number 11, Eileen Grimshaw told Glenda it was because of his missed opportunity with Laurence.
Glenda was then seen vowing to hunt him down on Sean’s behalf as while George admired his sister’s chutzpah, Eileen appeared mildly irritated. Glenda, played by Jodie Prenger, then came up with a plan, suggesting Sean should pretend to be a patient at Laurence's dental surgery.
The Weatherfield newbie then shocked Sean when she revealed she had arranged an appointment for him to see the dentist later that day. But it wasn't just Sean who was shocked as Corrie fans believe they spotted 'magic' in the scenes.
@Goldflazz1986 tweeted: "Jesus, Sean getting a dentist appointment on the same day Glenda rang for one.....#Corrie," alongside a gif of a crowd giving a standing ovation. @antrojak said: "Dentist appointment? What magic is this ? #Corrie."
@cassandra2020 shared: "Ah #Corrie got its finger on the pulse giving Sean a same day emergency dental appointment the day the news is full of people pulling their own teeth out because they can't get to see a dentist." @jeffnewton1 commented: "@itvcorrie #Corrie Sean is looking for a dentist. Aren't we all?!"
Antony Cotton, who plays Sean, already teased Laurence's appearance in the ITV soap as his new love interest. At the end of last month, the soap star took to Instagram with a selfie of himself alongside Robert Shaw Cameron who had been welcomed into the cast at their summer party.
Alongside the picture, Antony, 43, wrote: "This one may be a keeper… @itvcorrie @ITV #RobShawCameron #Shaw #Laurence." Robert has previously appeared in Corrie – playing a police officer in a 2011 episode.
However, He has also had roles in Holby City and Heartbeat. And fans were quick to share their response to the possible new pairing. @ktblea7 tweeted: "Oh please god, you deserve this “Shaun” !! Xx" @Maureen01549184 replied: "Absolutely! You make a gorgeous couple." @GmaTimesEight said: "Love it!" @Gabbysherwin added: "Yes at last!"
