ITV Britain's Got Talent fans divided as Axel Blake crowned winner after it emerged he has Amazon Prime show

Comedian Axel Blake took home the top prize during the final of Britain's Got Talent 2022. The funnyman beat the likes of operatic busker Maxwell Thorpe, singer Tom Ball, who came in third place, and teen ventriloquist Jamie Leahy, who came second, to win the chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance.

Axel, who was Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer act in the ITV talent contest, clasped his hands over his head in disbelief when his name was called out by hosts Ant and Dec. The congratulations came flooding in for the delighted comic.

But viewers watching at home were left divided after it emerged after his stand-up audition that he had his own show on Amazon Prime Video. The comedy special, which is currently unavailable to watch, was filmed from his 2018 headline show I'm Not Gonna Lie at the Indigo at the O2 in London.

He also stars in the romantic film Loves Spell on Amazon Prime Video. @RozieWhite questioned: "The shows have always showcased talent, however this appears to be a fix… he has his own show already?!"

@SandieJ3 complained: "Not really fair Axel won BGT as he's already out there." @John_Guy1 asked: "Can someone tell me, how someone like Axel Blake, who had his own TV show on @primevideouk to appear on @BGT and win it." And @jordandavies09 said: "Axel Blake has already had an Amazon Prime special. He’s not a new talent. That’s not what #bgt is about #BGTFinal."

Jamie came runner-up with his chicken puppet Chuck (ITV)

@TheTVGuyUK said: "So for everyone wondering. Yes Axel is in a feature movie called She’s the One/Loves Spell. Available to watch in prime." And BGT fan @Daniella_Hatton applauded: "Well done Axel, a worthy winner! Also well done to Jamie, you should be so proud of yourself and I am certain you will go on to be a superstar!"

@Dean__Hurrell said: "I am well pleased with that result for Axel Blake. Massive fan of his. Amazing. Well done fella #BGT #BGTFinal." @MichBrooksTV defended: "So pleased for Axel the Comedian on #BGt glad ppl voted for him. Times are changing and being on Spotify, Amazon or on a YouTube Channel do not equate to big bucks or success. Twitter Trolls need to get real."

@Louise92482764 wrote: "Don't care if he was professional comedian he was still brilliant. Congrats Axel Blake." And @rugbyleaguelady said: "He was very funny and deserved to win."
