ITV Britain's Got Talent fans 'cry happy tears' as they declare winner

Britain's Got Talent fans were left crying "happy tears" after a heart-warming dance act. Some viewers declared the inspiring dancer the winner of the ITV talent show winner after the opening weekend of performances.

The hit show returned for a 16th series with new episodes on Saturday and Sunday (April 15 and 16) as contestants tried to impress the judging panel of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and newcomer Bruno Tonioli. BGT viewers were instantly won over by ballroom dancer Nathan, who has Down's syndrome, on the latest episode.

After his dance teacher Joanne nominated him for an audition, Nathan was surprised by judge Alesha Dixon in the middle of a dancing class. In the tear-jerking scene, Alesha said she had been told that he "loves to dance" and asked if he wanted to audition for BGT.

In the clip, his parents spoke about how proud they were of Nathan. His teary mum said: "Children similar to Nathan are given the impression they're incapable and our son proves otherwise."

During the audition, the pair - who have been dancing together for three years - put smiles on faces with a cha-cha-cha routine as they progressed to the next stage of the competition. Bruno said: "It was a cheeky, sizzling, joyous cha-cha-cha!" as the pair received a 'yes' from all four judges.

Viewers were left emotional by the scenes as they took to social media to react, as the MEN reported. On Twitter, @ESsmad3 posted: "What an amazing young man #nathan the dancer is, he had me laughing and crying with his wonderful personality and he is a great dancer to. His parents must be so proud of him, what a true inspiration he is #BGT2023."

@JHoldenfanpage tweeted: "Omg that was spectacular, Nathan and Joanne absolutely killed that performance. Nathan danced it out of the park and his face when they got through after the judges gave them 4 yeses was lovely to see, you can just see how much that meant to him."

@RyanTheSoapking wrote: "Nathan did a great job and is a true inspiration to so many people who want to learn to dance or want to achieve something." @amy_madeley tweeted: "Nathan making me cry pure happy tears" and @lookbyegeorge said: "I am in tears a fabulous watch."

@Educ_Everything shared: "This year's #BGT reminds me that no disability, personal circumstances, race or ability can stop one from being on stage to realise a dream." @socialmediajon1 said: "Right, Nathan needs to win BGT. Many thanks Everyone."
