'It's true' - Micky van de Ven flirts with Liverpool move in telling transfer admission

VfL Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven has revealed he is aware of apparent Liverpool interest - but reiterated his future will be resolved after this summer's U21 European Championship.

The Holland defender has emerged as a possible summer option for the Reds with reports in Germany suggesting Liverpool are keeping tabs on his future. Jorg Schmadtke, who is in the early days of his tenure as the new sporting director, knows the 22-year-old well after signing him during his time with Die Wolfe.

The ECHO understands that a defensive acquisition isn't off the table this summer as the Reds target a left-sided defender and one with potential to grow into the position. While Levi Colwill, who spent last season on loan at Brighton, is admired by recruitment department on Merseyside, there is no official interest at present.

Van de Ven is one of a number of possible targets that the Reds and, in particular, their fans can get a closer look at during the European Championships, which kick off later this month.

Van de Ven has been open in discussing his future prospects in the build-up to this summer's tournament. He has already detailed that he would like a move to the Premier League in the future.

Now, he has name-dropped Liverpool as a club who have previously held interest in him but admitted he is none the wiser over the current speculation.

"Of course, there are a lot of people who draw lines. It's true that the director went there and I know that Liverpool followed me before. But at the moment I don't know anything," he said speaking to Voetbal International.

"Do I think Liverpool is a nice club? Naturally!"

With Portugal, Belgium and hosts Georgia in Holland's group for this summer's European Championships, the focus for the Dutch youngsters is on reclaiming their spot at the pinnacle of football on the continent.

Van de Ven said his future has yet to be decided: "If a nice club comes along that has a clear plan with me, then I could consider taking a step.

"Then you are open to that in that sense. There is a chance that after this summer I will just play in the Bundesliga, but there is also a chance that I will make a transfer. We will see. Let's finish this season first."
