'It's time' - Tottenham make major Lucas Moura transfer decision amid Leandro Trossard links

Tottenham have chosen not to trigger the option in Lucas Moura's contract to extend his stay at the club, according to reports.

In 2019, Moura penned a new five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a deal that would see him at the club until 2024. However, it's understood that the final year required activating by December 31 and the option was not triggered.

The Brazilian has seen his playing time in north London drastically decrease under Antonio Conte after being a key figure for Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho. Since his £25million move from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018, the 30-year-old has made over 200 appearances for Spurs.

This season, Moura has started only two games of his 11 appearances in all competitions after recovering from a tendon injury. After the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski last January, Conte has persistently opted to use the Swedish forward alongside Harry Kane, Richarlison and Son Heung-min in attack

Now, according to the Telegraph, Spurs have decided against extending the contract of the hero of their 2019 Champions League run, and will part ways with Moura in the summer. The winger is now free to discuss a free transfer with overseas clubs for the 2023/24 season.

Moura was the subject of interest from Premier League side Aston Villa in the summer but Spurs refused to entertain any offer from the West Midlands outfit. A possible January move could occur should any interested parties come forward, but a summer departure is now likely.

The news comes after reports from the Daily Mail insisted that Spurs have joined the transfer race to sign Brighton attacker Leandro Trossard. The Belgian has attracted interest from Chelsea and Arsenal after impressing with the Seagulls and the 28-year-old has been identified as a possible summer arrival.

Following the news of Moura's imminent exit, here is what a select few Spurs supporters have said.

@Phaytrick: I think it's the right decision for both club and player... we'll always have Amsterdam

@RyanTHFC2: Good for him, but we always remember him.

@joe2wpw: Sad but ultimately the right decision. Still think we could have tried him at RWB at least once this season.

@Bigab51: Pretty easy decision as long as we replace him

@nadeemboolaky: Spurs legend

@simonyemane: Good decision. Thanks for the memories Lucas but it's time
