Former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic believes Newcastle United have ‘everything’ in place to become a top club. Last October’s £300million takeover has heightened expectations around St James’ Park, with previous also-rans Manchester City serving as the blueprint for the Magpies’ success.
Newcastle boast an impressive history but fans have been starved of success for decades. The club’s last domestic trophy was 67 years ago yet, despite the lack of silverware, supporters still flock to St James’ Park in their droves.
A world-class football team to match the fanbase and stadium is the ultimate ambition and Bilic - out of work since leaving Chinese outfit Beijing Guoan earlier this year - expects that day to come, although admitting it could take ‘years’ for Newcastle to reach the top.

Speaking to Premier League TV after the Wolves win, he said: “They will aim high and they’ve got everything, they’ve got the money, the Premier League, the stadium, the crowd.
“Nobody who watched the game today and, you didn’t need this game today to know that, what I am trying to say is everyone knows about Newcastle fans. Everybody who is interested in football knows, so they got all that. It’s not plastic, it’s real.
“Now, on the other hand, we know that Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain needed years and years (to become successful).”
