A Co Fermanagh mum has launched an appeal for birthday cards for her son, who was paralysed following attempts to treat scoliosis.
Wendy Haren is hoping to have as many cards sent to her son Patrick on his 20th birthday as possible to keep his spirits up.
Patrick was born with a number of life-threatening conditions, including scoliosis and kyphosis, and his mum says it is a miracle he has survived to see his 20th birthday.

“Patrick was born with so many life threatening issues, he was in hospital for almost a year,” Wendy told Belfast Live.
“During that time he developed scoliosis and kyphosis which required surgery, he had to wait until he was strong enough but unfortunately it didn’t work and ended up paralysed. He had to learn to walk again and did.
“That was in 2009, since then his condition has deteriorated and among other problems is really struggling. He is tiny for his age and surgery is not an option anymore.
“He loves going to the cinema and is a huge Marvel fan. I thought it would be a great idea to reach as many people as possible to send him a card on his 20th birthday as it’s a miracle he is still with us.
“We love him dearly and would appreciate every single card sent.”
Wendy said she is incredibly proud of her son’s resilience, and while she is hoping to keep the card appeal a surprise for Patrick, she says it would be the perfect birthday gift for him.
“It’s a surprise for Patrick, but I know he would be overwhelmed with so many cards to open.
“I myself would be overcome to see his face and watch him open them, as he doesn’t get out like a normal teenager.”
