Israeli Strikes Force Closure Of Hospital In Southern Lebanon

Smoke rises after Israeli air strikes in Gaza, as seen from southern Israel

Lebanon's Marjayoun Governmental Hospital, located in the southern region, was forced to shut down on Friday following Israeli strikes in close proximity to the facility. The hospital's director, Dr. Mones Kalakish, reported that seven individuals lost their lives outside the hospital entrance due to the strike.

The escalating violence has led to the closure of thirty-seven health facilities in southern Lebanon since the commencement of Israel's bombardment campaign nearly two weeks ago. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus disclosed that twenty-eight health workers were tragically killed by Israeli airstrikes on Thursday.

Dr. Kalakish expressed the harrowing experience faced by the hospital staff, stating, 'We held on for as long as we could, but this morning we came under fire, and we had to evacuate. We were panicked and terrified.'

Israeli forces have intensified their bombing campaign in Lebanon's southernmost territory, raising concerns of potential further ground operations. The relentless attacks have prompted tens of thousands of residents to flee the area in fear for their safety.

Efforts to seek a response from the Israeli military regarding the strikes on the hospital and surrounding areas are currently underway. The impact of the ongoing conflict on healthcare infrastructure and personnel in Lebanon remains a critical concern as the situation continues to unfold.
