Israeli PM Calls For Continued Humanitarian Aid To Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu addresses a ceremony marking Memorial Day in Jerusalem

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has emphasized the importance of maintaining sustained humanitarian aid to Gaza, despite recent laws passed by the Israeli parliament targeting UNRWA's operations in the country. The laws not only banned UNRWA's activities but also severely limited its ability to operate within the enclave.

The Prime Minister's office (PMO) took to social media to accuse UNRWA staff of engaging in terrorist activities against Israel, calling for them to be held accountable. However, the PMO also acknowledged the necessity of ensuring that humanitarian aid continues to reach Gaza to prevent a crisis.

UNRWA has strongly refuted Israel's allegations, stating that there is no basis for labeling the entire institution as being infiltrated by militants. In May, the agency made it clear that such claims were unfounded.

UNRWA plays a crucial role in supporting approximately six million Palestinians across Gaza, the West Bank, Jordan, and other parts of the Middle East. The agency provides essential services such as food, education, and medical assistance to those in need.
