Syria’s defense ministry has accused Israel of targeting a vehicle in the Syrian capital of Damascus on Monday, resulting in the death of two civilians. The Israeli military has stated that they are looking into the report but cannot confirm anything at the moment.
The strike, as reported by the Syrian defense ministry, took place in the Mazzeh residential neighborhood in Damascus. In addition to the casualties, three others were injured, and there was material damage to private property in the surrounding area.
A video published by the pro-government Sham FM radio shows the aftermath of the airstrike, with Syrian military officers near a charred vehicle and damage to the Golden Mazzeh hotel building nearby.
The Israeli military has stated that the strike targeted a senior Hezbollah member in Syria who was responsible for the group’s financial operations. The IDF spokesperson mentioned that the financial network was managed by Hezbollah Unit 4400 and that the previous leader, Jafar Qasir, was eliminated in Beirut in October. The successor to Qasir was also targeted and eliminated in the recent strike in Syria.
Earlier on Monday, Syria’s defense ministry reported the deaths of two civilians in the Israeli strike. The IDF referred to the spokesperson's statement regarding the incident in Syria when asked for comment.
