Taylor Swift fans are all too familiar with a countdown clock. Not only was there one on display before every show on The Eras Tour, but the pop superstar has famously used countdowns on her website to announce new music, videos, album artwork and much more.
“I make countdowns for things I’m excited about,” she wrote in an essay for ELLE in 2019. “When I’ve gone through dark, low times, I’ve always found a tiny bit of relief and hope in getting a countdown app (they’re free) and adding things I’m looking forward to.”
Well, folks, she’s done it again, with a 48-hour countdown clock appearing — and then disappearing soon after — on her official website overnight.
So, what does it mean?

Fans flood social media with theories
The mysterious clock was live for roughly 10 minutes before being taken down, according to multiple reports, and counted down to 4am AEDT on Sunday, May 3.
Considering her latest album The Life of a Showgirl was only released in October, her recent music video for “Elizabeth Taylor” dropped last month, and an extensive interview with The New York Times came out just a few days ago, the countdown seemed very out of the blue.
However, the blue and white cloud background of the countdown has led many fans to believe that the announcement is somehow related to Toy Story 5.
You see, the fifth instalment of the beloved film series is set to be released on June 19, 2026 — a date that also marks 20 years since Taylor released her debut single “Tim McGraw”. Coincidence? Those don’t exist in the Taylor Swift fandom.
Swifties have also pieced together that Taylor was photographed in New York City three days ago wearing a blue and white striped dress with red heels and a yellow handbag — which matches the countdown and the Toy Story aesthetic.
A similar cloud background also popped up in Taylor’s music video for “Opalite”, which was released in February, and we all know that girl loves an Easter egg.
Will Taylor Swift release a song for Toy Story 5?
So, will Taylor release a new song for Toy Story 5? It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise, considering she’s also provided soundtrack songs for the films Hannah Montana: The Movie, Valentine’s Day, The Hunger Games, One Chance, Fifty Shades Darker, Cats and Where the Crawdads Sing.
Plus, looking at her discography, there are plenty of songs that could fit into the Toy Story universe as perfectly as Randy Newman’s “You’ve Got A Friend In Me” and Sarah McLachlan’s “When She Loved Me”.
We’ve got “Cowboy Like Me”, “It’s Nice To Have A Friend”, “Never Grow Up”, “You’re On Your Own, Kid”, and, of course, “My Boy Always Breaks His Favourite Toys” (which would be perfect if they brought back Sid for the fifth film). Heck, even “Wood” could work.
Considering the countdown has since been deleted, and no further updates have been shared, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens with this one. But just remember, you can’t spell Toy Story without TS.
