Is Sunderland vs Rotherham United on TV? Coverage details, live stream info, kick-off time and more

Sunderland face Rotherham United at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday, in the penultimate game of their League One campaign. The game kicks-off at 7.45pm and - potentially - the Black Cats could guarantee a play-off place, depending on events elsewhere.

Alex Neil's side go into this game sitting fourth in the table and on the back of an 11-game unbeaten run, having beaten Cambridge United 5-1 in their most recent game at the weekend, when Ross Stewart scored twice, and Elliot Embleton, Nathan Broadhead, and Danny Batth one apiece. If they win against Rotherham, and if play-off rivals suffer an unlikely defeat at relegation candidates Fleetwood Town, Sunderland will be certain of a top six finish.

However if Sunderland drop points, or if Wednesday collect at least a point, the play-off race will be decided on Saturday, the final day of the season. Second-placed Rotherham are chasing automatic promotion and they will arrive on Wearside knowing that a win would effectively guarantee Championship football next season.

But the Millers have wobbled recently, with their 3-1 home win against Oxford United only their third league victory in ten outings. Sunderland lost 5-1 against Rotherham at the New York Stadium back in October, with Michael Smith and Freddie Ladapo each scored a brace, and Michael Ihiekwe scoring the other. Stewart had levelled for Sunderland at 1-1 before Rotherham took the game away from them, and the Black Cats also had Aiden McGeady sent off in the second half for a second bookable offence.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of Tuesday's encounter.

What is the early team news ahead of Sunderland vs Rotherham United?

Defender Dennis Cirkin and Carl Winchester are both expected to miss the game due to injury.

Cirkin sat out Saturday's win against Cambridge, and Alex Neil suggested afterwards that he would only feature again this season if Sunderland extend their campaign by reaching the play-offs.

Winchester limped off with a groin problem after only ten minutes against the U's, and while the extent of his injury is not yet known, it is unlikely he will be fit to play against the Millers.

Callum Doyle and Alex Pritchard both came off the bench to make their comebacks from illness and injury respectively on Saturday, and should be available. Leon Dajaku has been ill and is unlikely to be involved.

Long-term absentees Aiden McGeady, Jordan Willis, and Niall Huggins will again be missing.

McGeady has been out of action since November with a knee ligament problem - although he resumed training last week - while Willis (patella tendon), and Huggins (heel), have already been ruled out until next term.
