Is Jurrien Timber injured this weekend? Injury latest on Arsenal right-back ahead of FA Cup trip to Southampton

Jurrien Timber had to withdraw from the Netherlands side.

Arsenal are waiting to discover whether Jurrien Timber will be ready to return to action for the club this weekend.

The defender has not played since being forced off in the 38th minute of Arsenal’s game against Everton on March 14 with an ankle injury.

Timber’s early exit in that match was followed by his withdrawal from the Netherlands squad for the March international break.

The Dutchman had been called up for his country's friendlies against Norway and Ecuador before being forced to pull out.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has indicated that Timber will be assessed before Arsenal’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Southampton, leaving open the possibility of the right-back returning to action this weekend as Arsenal enter a crucial run of games.

Arteta will be keen to get Timber back as soon as possible, particularly given his current injury list also potentially includes Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze, Gabriel Magalhaes and Martin Odegaard, among others.

Timber has missed just one Premier League game for Arsenal this season: a 2-1 victory over Brighton on December 27.

Arteta is likely to provide an update on Timber and the rest of his squad at his pre-match press conference before the visit to Southampton.

Arsenal are approaching a pivotal period in the Premier League title race, with little margin for error as they try to maintain their lead over Manchester City through to the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola's side are nine points behind the Gunners, but with a game in hand and a meeting between the two sides coming up later this month at the Etihad Stadium.

City won the most recent battle between the two sides by claiming a 2-0 win in the Carabao Cup final on the eve of the international break.

Arsenal still have genuine hopes of finishing the season with plenty of silverware, however, with a push for a Treble not out of the question.

Arteta's side will visit the south coast in the FA Cup on Saturday before turning their attention to the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Portuguese side Sporting.
