Is it possible to 'fix' heat-damaged hair without having to chop it off? I put it to the experts

A close-up of a woman's hands, seen holding and inspecting the ends of her hair, whilst wearing a white bathroom robe/ featured in a white and grey marbled template with pink wavy lines.

After years of prioritising colour and styling, my strands started to take a hit last year, with dryness, split ends and snapping becoming part of my daily reality. Now, well on the road from breakage to repair, I’ve learnt a whole lot about restoring my strands.

Be it adding a protein-packed best shampoos for fine hair to my routine, to bond treatments and silk head wraps, I’ve invested a lot into regrowth and regeneration. That said, I did begin my hair journey to what I hope will be a return to its former healthy glory, with a hefty chop. I opted for this route to get rid of the majority of damage and start again, as it were. My question is though, are dramatic haircuts always necessary in cases such as this, or can you hit the proverbial reset button without leaving the salon with a bob?
