iRobot has officially entered a new product category with the launch of the Roomba Electro Plus. It arrives as a cordless, self-propelled hard floor cleaner that combines vacuuming, mopping, disinfecting, self-cleaning and self-drying into a single machine.
After announcing its bankruptcy before re-emerging as a privately held company, iRobot is clearly looking to strengthen its position in the market. Expanding beyond the best robot vacuums feels like a natural next step, and the Roomba Electro Plus could be the first of many new product categories for the brand.
The Roomba Electro Plus is available to pre-order now from iRobot's online store for $399.99, with first-time customers able to save 10% by signing up to the brand's email newsletter. There's no word yet on a UK or European launch.
One of the standout features is its electrolysed water technology, a feature that's starting to appear in more home appliances, including Xiaomi's recently announced smart washing machine. The system transforms ordinary tap water into a cleaning solution capable of eliminating 99.99% of household bacteria, viruses and fungi.
Interestingly, the Electro Plus launches alongside a brand new generation of Roomba robot vacuums, priced between $600 and $1,000. This shows the company is still committed to its core business whilst recognising that broadening its product lineup is key to staying competitive.
