Irish turf, smoky coal and wet wood are banned for retail sale from Monday after a final sign-off by Environment, Climate and Communications, Minister Eamon Ryan.
The new solid fuel regulations are intended to improve air quality and improve people’s health.
Air pollution is reported to kill more people every year in Ireland than car accidents and can cause stroke, heart disease, lung cancer and respiratory diseases.
