Irish Rail issues June Bank Holiday warning as 'busiest weekend' in two years looms

Irish Rail has warned passengers to pre-book their Intercity train tickets for the June Bank Holiday as soon as possible as they get set for their "busiest weekend since pre-pandemic".

The public transport operator has said that due to a number of scheduled events, they are expecting over 200,000 customers to travel on their intercity services alone.

Extra services in areas of high demand will be operated by Irish Rail where possible to try maximise capacity.

They warned that DART, Dublin Commuter and Cork Commuter services are also expected to see high demand.

The June Bank Holiday will be a busy weekend across the country, with many notable events taking place.

In Dublin, Bloom will be held in Phoenix Park over the weekend and the VHI Women's Mini-Marathon will kick off on Sunday.

Forbidden Fruit Festival in Kilmainham and the Leinster Hurling Final in Croke Park are also taking place.

A spokesman for Iarnrod Eireann said they are urging anyone intending to travel during the Bank Holiday to book their tickets immediately.

He said: "The June weekend really feels like the weekend when the whole country is celebrating a return to better times, with so many sports, cultural and music events taking place.

"We want everyone who travels with us on Intercity services to do so in comfort, so we urge all intending to travel to book immediately.

"These trains will sell out, and with rail fares now 20% lower following public transport fare cuts in recent weeks, customers will be able to avoid both congestion and higher fuel costs by booking today."
