Irish pint lover visits every single pub in Dublin in one day - and it took a surprising amount of time

A Dublin pint lover has completed the monumental task of visiting every single pub in Dublin city in a single day, which took him a surprising amount of time.

John Geraghty, 37, has been enthralling listeners with his 'Publin' podcast, detailing little known facts and mysteries about the magical pub scene in Dublin.

This week the Blanchardstown man visited the city's 238 licenced premises across 34km, in what he described as a physically "grueling" task that took him 8 hours and 30 minutes.

Before setting out, he said: "I think I'll be the first person to 'visit' all of Dublin city's pubs in one day."

The pub enthusiast laid down very strict criteria before even taking his first stride, that he had to "physically" touch at least some part of each of the 238 pubs as he passed by.

He created his route by compiling several maps of Dublin, old and new, and then filtered out closed pubs or any place he didn't "deem" a pub or that was located outside the city centre.

"I then put these points into 'Upper Route Planner', which gave me the most efficient route to visit every pub in Dublin on foot," he added.

John made Barber's pub in Stoneybatter his first stop, as dusk began to turn to dawn on a clear Dublin morning.

"First significant milestone of the day. Pub number 50 is The Hairy Lemon on Stephens Street," he said, updating his followers from a live Twitter thread.

It took him two hours to get to pub 100, which was The Liberty Belle on Francis Street.

Popular public house Toners clocked in at number 150, where John admitted to stopping for some fuel, a sit down and some media enquiries. Soon after he completed half of six total River Liffey crossings as he landed on O'Connell Street.

John hit pub number 238 at the 8 hour and 30 minute mark, as he set out to The Flowing Tide to put a cap on achieving his monumental and unique feat.

"No better spot to finish up. I'll have to stay for another because I can't really move," he wrote.

John concluded by saying that he plans to add to his already nine-strong Spotify series, where he intends to delve deeper into what one commenter termed "The Dublin Camino."

What do you think of John's achievement? What is your favourite Dublin pub? Have your say in the comments.
