The national forecaster said as well as thunderstorms, "spot flooding" and "hazardous travelling conditions" are likely in these areas today.

A separate Thunderstorm Warning is in place for the six counties in Northern Ireland as well.

The Met Office issued a Status Yellow warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry that will be valid from 12pm and will remain in place until 9pm Monday.

They warned: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to some localised disruption."

Meanwhile, Monday will start out mostly cloudy and misty with some patchy drizzle near the east coast that is set to clear quickly.

Sunny spells will develop as the day goes on with scattered showers, becoming more widespread and heavy during the afternoon.

There will be some thundery downpours, especially in the east of the country, bringing a risk of spot flooding. Highest temperatures on Monday will range 14 to 20C.

On Monday night, heavy or thundery showers will clear eastwards and there will be clear spells with some mist patches. Towards Tuesday morning, more heavy showers will develop near the west coast. Overnight temperatures will range from 7 to 10C

On Tuesday, rain will be widespread again, with some heavy and thundery showers in the afternoon. However, there will be some sunny spells at times too and highest temperatures of 13 to 16C.

The rest of the week will be a mix of showers and sunshine on Wednesday and Thursday but it is expected to clear up by Friday, which is set to be a dry weather with some sunshine and highs of up to 18C.
