Ireland and South Africa to clash in November - 11 months out from World Cup meeting

World champions South Africa will come to the Aviva Stadium in November to kick off Ireland's autumn series - less than a year out from the side's World Cup 2023 meeting at the Stade de France.

Australia and Fiji will also face Andy Farrell's men at the Lansdowne Road venue in the November window.

With Ireland also travelling to New Zealand for three Tests against the All Blacks in July, Farrell will relish the opportunity to see how his players perform against such top level opposition over the next six months.

It will be the first time South Africa play in Dublin since 2017, when Ireland's comprehensive 38-3 victory marked a low point for the Springboks.

But it was the game that convinced Rassie Erasmus to quit Munster to transform the fortunes of his national side, with the Springboks going on to win the World Cup two years later.

South Africa also beat the British and Irish Lions in their Tour series in the summer of last year.

And, with Ireland and the Springboks pencilled in to meet in the pool stages of the World Cup on September 23 next year, their November 5th clash this year will be a gauge of where Ireland stand.

Ireland last faced Fiji in Dublin five years ago, with the home side claiming a 23-20 victory. Farrell's charges were due to travel to Fiji in the summer of 2021 but the global pandemic made it impossible to go ahead.

The last time Ireland played Australia in Dublin was in 2016, when the hosts won 27-24. The sides also met in a three-Test series in Australia four years ago, with Ireland winning the series 2-1.

General ticket sales will begin in July.
