Iranian human rights lawyer Nasrin Sotoudeh was awarded the Council of Europe’s Vaclav Havel Human Rights Prize on Monday for her work defending activists, journalists, minorities and opponents of the death penalty.
63-year-old Sotoudeh has long campaigned against capital punishment and Iran’s compulsory hijab laws, while representing some of the country’s most prominent human rights cases.
