Iran's supreme leader criticised an initial proposal from the United States on Wednesday regarding negotiations over Tehran's advancing nuclear programme but stopped short of entirely rejecting the idea of an agreement with Washington.

The remarks by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei reinforced a red line expressed by Iran in recent days that Tehran refuses to give up enriching uranium in any possible agreement with the US.
