The Iranian government has passed the first draft of a bill that would severely punish any person who speaks to foreign media outlets or media professionals deemed "hostile" by the authorities. If passed, the bill could see people jailed for up to 30 years.

Entitled the "Countering the Influence of Foreign Intelligence Services, Governments, and Entities’" bill, it has already entered the process of becoming law after it was approved by parliament on 16 August.
