Ipswich Town vs Liverpool LIVE
Liverpool recorded their first win under Andoni Iraola with a 2-0 victory at Ipswich Town. The Reds seized all three points in East Anglia thanks to a nine-minute double salvo from Alexander Isak, who blasted the Merseysiders in front before spinning in behind and slotting beyond Kjell Scherpen in the home net for his second.
He was denied a first-half hat-trick by the offside flag when he swept home from Florian Wirtz’s pass just after the half-hour, but the visitors were fully deserving of their points. Bradley Barcola made his hotly-anticipated debut from the bench having joined for £123million from Paris Saint-Germain, and he was solid off the left flank having replaced Victor Munoz.
The visitors were denied a penalty shout when Dominik Szoboszlai was felled in the 18-yard box by Leif Davis, but after a video assistant referee intervention that saw man in the middle Darren England called to the pitchside monitor, no spot kick was awarded, with the Hungarian midfielder ruled to have been offside.

Free agents Premier League clubs should sign
19:07 , Oli Gent
Liverpool’s depth is still light in places after Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Might they need more additions, with free agents still able to be snapped up?
Standard Sport had a look...
Ipswich lineup analysed
19:00 , Oli Gent
As for the hosts, just the one change as well.
O’Neil hands World Cup winner Exequiel Palacios his first start after the Argentine made his debut for the club at Old Trafford off the bench.
Otherwise, as you were, but with a couple of changes off the bench. A few summer arrivals are amongst the substiutes, including Deadline Day capture Zian Flemming, who will don the No9 shirt, and Florentino Luis, who also came in from Burnley.
Abdul Fatawu and Daizen Maeda will provide the goal threat from out wide, with the deep-lying tricky forward Emersonn tasked with occupying van Dijk and Jacquet.
Liverpool lineup analysis
18:55 , Oli Gent
So there we go then.
Barcola on the bench, and just the one change for Iraola.
Frimpong drops out for a bit more solidity at right-back, with Ronald Araujo getting his first start since his move from Barcelona.
Barcola could well make his debut later on this evening, but it is pretty much the same side that drew with Forest last weekend.
A big chance for Munoz once more off the left, but will he be trialled on the right, or will Gakpo remain there, in the hole that Mohamed Salah has left?
Ryan Gravenberch again misses out, with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai preferred.
Ipswich lineup
18:48 , Oli Gent
Ipswich XI: Scherpen; O’Shea, Diop, Greaves, Davis; Lukic, Palacios; Fatawu, Enciso, Maeda; Emersonn
Subs: Walton, Furlong, Kipre, Palacios, Luis, Nunez, Ouattara, Clarke, McAteer, Flemming
Iraola issues Leoni injury update
18:37 , Oli Gent
Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has provided a positive injury update on Giovanni Leoni.
It has been almost a year on the sidelines for Leoni, who signed from Serie A side Parma last summer in a deal worth around £26million.
The Italian central defender made his Liverpool debut in a Carabao Cup third round tie against Southampton on September 23, 2025, and impressed before landing awkwardly following a challenge near the touchline just over 10 minutes from time.
'He isn’t one': Carragher reveals Liverpool star that needs to be sold
18:30 , Oli Gent
Jamie Carragher says Liverpool made a big mistake in the summer transfer window by not signing cover in the full-back areas.
Liverpool have conceded four goals in their opening two Premier League games of the new season, with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong both coming in for criticism from supporters.
Carragher has waded in on the debate, saying both full-backs’ understanding of the game is “really, really poor” before singling out the Hungary international with a Darwin Nunez comparison.
Sarr next step revealed after missed Liverpool deal
18:23 , Oli Gent
Ismaila Sarr is expected to stay at Crystal Palace, after missing out on a dream move to Liverpool.
The Senegal international has not featured for Palace so far this season, sitting out defeats to Everton and Manchester City with a groin injury.
Liverpool drop transfer hint with Champions League squad confirmed
18:15 , Oli Gent
Liverpool have left out two first-team players from their Champions League squad this season.
They are Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa, who missed the Reds’ ‘List A’ that was due to be submitted on Wednesday evening.
The squad was announced on Thursday night, but neither the Japan international nor the Italian winger were anywhere to be seen amongst the cohort.
Will Barcola make his debut?
18:07 , Oli Gent
Bradley Barcola is set to make his debut this evening following his £123million move from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Resds have been bolstered by the arrival of the Frenchman, for a fee just shy of the British transfer record fee they paid for Alexander Isak last summer.
The winger is elgibile to play in East Anglia this evening, and could potentially get his first minutes in his new colours.
Standard Sport prediction
18:00 , Oli Gent
Ipswich stunned Sunderland on the opening day, and they played very well in the first half at Old Trafford before Man United upped their gear.
However, while Liverpool haven’t been that convincing so far, they will come good at some point, with the quality of their attacking options.
Liverpool to win, 3-1.
Liverpool team news
17:53 , Oli Gent
Bradley Barcola is tonight in line to make his debut for Liverpool as the Premier League weekend begins at Ipswich.

On the injury list, Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are all sidelined for the longer term.
Federico Chiesa and Joe Gomez are also out of this one, with Gomez the most likely to return soonest.
