IPS officer's brother missing from Hindaun found in Uttar Pradesh after 2 days

JAIPUR: Police on Thursday found the missing 52-year-old brother of a senior IPS officer in Kanpur after two days of intensive search.

Karauli SP Shailendra Singh Indoliya said Akhilesh Goyal, brother of IPS officer Vinit Goyal currently posted in Kolkata, was reported missing on Tuesday from Hindaun. A team comprising an ASP and DSP along with staff from different police stations of the district was pressed to locate Goyal.

Hindaun DSP Kishori Lal said police on Thursday afternoon came to know that Goyal was in Kanpur. "A police team was sent to Kanpur to bring him to Karauli," he said, adding that Goyal was taken to a hospital as he appeared to be stressed.

Police said they were waiting for Goyal to arrive in Karauli to find out the reasons for the disappearance. "Once he returns and his health condition becomes stable, we will be able to solve the mystery," Lal said.

Police said Goyal is a native of Suroth area in Hindaun tehsil of Karauli district. "He runs a garment business and often travels to nearby areas to meet retailers. He left his house on Tuesday morning and told family members that he was leaving for Gangapur city in Sawai Madhopur district," Lal said.

Goyal's family could not reach him on his phone, nor did he return till late at night. The worried family then filed a missing person report at the Hindaun police station on Tuesday night.

Karauli police sent a team and issued an alert to their counterparts in the neighbouring Sawai Madhopur district. "We scanned CCTV footage around the railway station in Hindaun where he was last seen. Since there are no CCTV cameras inside the railway station, we checked the time which coincided with the scheduled arrivals and departure of Avadh Express," Lal said.

Karauli police sought help from the Government Railway Police and Railway Protection Force even as teams fanned out to Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Mumbai, and other places. Local traders and business associations held a protest on Wednesday after Goyal's disappearance and asked cops to expedite the probe.
