A ninth person has now been rescued from the collapsed apartment building in Davenport, Iowa, after she managed to call her daughter and alert authorities to her whereabouts.
Lisa Brooks was found on the fourth floor of the building on Monday, with firefighters rescuing her by bucket ladder and taking her to hospital for an evaluation.
The miraculous rescue comes as officials are planning to demolish the building on Tuesday – despite residents saying that at least two men are still unaccounted for.
Family members and local residents have been searching for Branden Colvin and Ryan Hitchcock, who have not been seen since the building partially collapsed on Sunday.
Officials meanwhile claim that there is no credible evidence of anyone still missing.
Some residents announced on social media that they are planning to protest at the site on Tuesday morning to stop the demolition going ahead while people could still be trapped inside.
Brooks’ rescue came after the mission had already moved to a recovery operation.
The cause of the collapse has not been determined but residents say they complained about the building for years, including visible water damage.
