As someone who writes about TV, I watch a wide variety of shows on the 2026 TV schedule, though there are some genres I try to avoid. I haven't watched The Pitt, for example, because medical dramas make me queasy, and I've read enough headlines to know it can get pretty messy. I'm a sucker for superhero shows, and unfortunately, too attached to Invincible. With that, I couldn't stop watching even after I almost puked due to the latest episode.
Fresh off its Hell storyline, Invincible showed Mark and Oliver accompanying Allen the Alien, Omni-Man, and others in space to fight the Viltrumites and destroy them once and for all. This led to the long-awaited rematch between two super-powered rivals, and man, did it get grisly. I may sympathize with what happened to the Viltrumites, but I don't think watching one of their fights will ever be easy.
Invincible's Rematch With Mark And Conquest Was Stomach Churning
Conquest finally got his rematch with Mark Grayson a.k.a. Invincible and, after the former nearly killed Atom Eve in their last battle, Mark was not going to let the Viltrumite enforcer live to hurt anyone else. Grayson was successful in killing him but, boy, the cost was really gut-wrenching (both figuratively and literally).
Mark managed to get a firm grip on Conquest's throat and began to choke the life from him as the villain did whatever he could to try to break free. Eventually, he was able to land a blow so devastating that he split open Mark's insides and began ripping out his intestines to try to get him to loosen his grip.
Mark screamed in agony as his guts spilled out, and Conquest continued to rip away while desperate to breathe. Just when it seemed like Mark possibly couldn't hold on any longer, the light went out of Conquest's eyes, and Mark, in a state of shock, collapsed next to him. I immediately got up and went to the bathroom, as I was convinced I was going to vomit.
Invincible Has A History Of Dropping Gruesome Scenes
I know I should stop being surprised when Invincible does something horrific, because it's basically a pillar of the show at this point. However, I'm probably so taken aback this time around because Season 4 has gone a bit lighter on the violence, compared to Season 1 (in which an incredibly violent moment set off the story). That scene -- which sees Omni Man brutally kill the Guardians of the Globe or Conquest disfiguring Eve are just a couple of the gory sights that stick with me.
Honestly, the reason I continue to come back to Invincible despite being grossed out by the violence is that the story is just too good. I particularly like the fact that series creator and writer Robert Kirkman's narrative strays away from the usual tropes seen in superhero shows and movies. Yet, at the same time, the show doesn't quite go full-tilt like a superhero series such as The Boys. As someone raised on animated DC Comics-based shows, it feels like a natural evolution of what I enjoyed as a kid, and it is definitely worth looking into for those who haven't watched yet.
So if you love great superhero storytelling and can stomach some truly violent scenes, know that new episodes of Invincible Season 4 hit Prime Video on Wednesdays. The Viltrumite War is finally underway, and I'm sure it'll only get more violent as we go on. Here's hoping I can keep my composure until after the season finale!
