The mounting death toll from terrifying earthquakes devastating parts of Turkey and Syria is a heartbreaking loss of life.
Victims sleeping in their beds didn’t stand a chance, buildings collapsing on them as tremors measuring 7.8 demolished low level homes and blocks of flats.
As the desperate search for survivors continues and the total of fatalities grows, Britain and the world must do what we can to help by sending experts, equipment, medical supplies and everything that’s required.
Those who have lost all their possessions risk dying from disease and the cold without clean water, food and accommodation so those who escaped with their lives must not be overlooked or they will join the dead.
The international community must not look the other way and this is not the time for aid to be denied over legitimate disputes with Turkey, a NATO member, or Syria, a smashed state brought to its knees by dictator Assad.
NHS not safe
By doing nothing as an ailing National Health Service endures extra disruption the dogmatic, stubborn and dangerous Conservative Government badly misruling our country is jeopardising lives.
Pig-headedly refusing to negotiate pay with nurses, ambulance crews, physiotherapists, junior doctors and any other group taking or threatening to walk out is lunacy.
Reasonableness on both sides to find common ground could end these strikes very quickly but it takes two to talk and the Tories prefer to misrepresent workers and smear trade unions, seeking political capital rather than industrial peace. Our precious NHS will never be safe in Conservative hands when the Tories quite frankly don’t care.
A busted Truss
Liz Truss is like a naughty kid caught with chocolate on her face, holding an empty wrapper yet insisting she never stole it.
The more the former Prime Minister speaks the more deluded she sounds.
