Instant fine warning issued to Brits with Vodafone, Virgin Media, TalkTalk or Sky Broadband

People who get their broadband from Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Vodafone or Sky Broadband have been issued a fine warning. If a member of staff visits your house and you don't answer the door, you can be fined as much as £110 - depending on which provider you're with.

Many people don't realise that some broadband providers can charge you a fixed fee if an engineer visits and you don't answer the door. The rules have caused controversy amongst customers.

You can also get compensation if an engineer misses an appointment. But this is often a fraction of what you'd pay for missing one yourself. This is how much the biggest broadband providers will charge you if an engineer is called out to no avail:
