Insider: Kevin Stefanski not afraid to coach up Deshaun Watson

The success of the 2023 season for the Cleveland Browns hangs on the hope and belief that quarterback Deshaun Watson returns to form. A lot of the responsibility will fall on head coach Kevin Stefanski to put Watson in a position to succeed after his struggles in 2022.

In Terry Pluto’s latest article for Cleveland dot com, he highlighted how Stefanski isn’t holding Watson above other players when it comes to coaching.

“Stefanski has corrected Watson in front of the team. Watson understands that’s part of the deal as a QB. The team is looking to see if the coaches will criticize him as they do other players. So far, Watson has been a low-maintenance QB.”

It’s nice to read that Stefanski doesn’t have different standards when it comes to players which could be helpful in the locker room. Pluto also talked about the relationship being built between Stefansk, Watson, and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.

“Watson is building a strong relationship with head coach Kevin Stefanski and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. I heard they consider him “a no-ego star who wants to be coached hard.” That matches Watson’s reputation at Clemson and for the most part, in Houston.”

Time will tell if it will all work out in Cleveland but so far reports out of Berea are encouraging for the 2023 season.
